Meet Odette Gbeve, UNA-Canada’s Regional Coordinator for Halifax!
Odette Gbeve is a Dalhousie University alumna that is very passionate about serving marginalized communities, especially refugees. She did a double major in international development and sociology & social anthropology with a certificate in Intercultural Communication. She has been working and volunteering with the Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia (ISANS) for over 6 years. Odette served as a Vice President for Dalhousie African Student Association, she also worked at the Dalhousie Black Student advising as an Event Coordinator, among many other jobs. She has served on different advisory boards such as the Newcomer Community Wellness Project and Girls Action Foundation. She was also an ambassador for Canadian Council for Refugees (CCR) and served on a planning committee for Atlantic Summer Institute (ASI) to plan a symposium on child and youth mental health. In 2012, Odette founded a facebook group called “The Little We Can Do” where she was successful in raising funds to support 4 refugee youth in Ghana to attend vocational schools. Alongside being the Halifax Regional Coordinator, Odette is currently the Facilitator for Inter-Action Youth Project at ISANS. Her position allows her to provide leadership skills training as well as overseeing community project embark by Government Assisted Refugee Youth. In her perfect world, there would be neither racism nor any form of discrimination. With her passion for refugee rights and immigration, she hopes to make the world a better place, one refugee at a time.
Meet Husein Ladha, UNA-Canada’s Regional Coordinator in Toronto:
Husein Ladha currently works at Toronto Community Housing as a Sports and Camp Coordinator. He graduated from York University, completing his Specialized Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree in Kinesiology and Health Science and a Bachelor of Education degree. Previously, Husein has held leadership positions at the Ontario Physical and Health Education Association, Royal City Soccer Club and the Jays Care Foundation. Husein’s passion lies in providing leadership opportunities to underprivileged youth as he has held a variety of roles in managing programs to promote youth engagement in vulnerable communities across the city of Toronto. During his spare time, Husein’s enjoys traveling and staying active, playing his favourite sports- squash, golf and soccer.

Meet Drsane Kaffa, UNA-Canada’s Regional Coordinator in Edmonton:
B.A. in Economics
Drsane’s interst in leadership, and social entrepreneurship stems from her work in the non-profit sector. In 2009 she co-founded LIFE (Let’s Impact Families Edmonton) with her mother to help new comers to Canada successfully integrate into society via after school programs, summer camps, family consultations/workshops etc. Drsane also works as Operations Manager for Addiszone.com, an online retail store that has embraced Social Entrepreneurship through it’s Addiszone Local program. The site hosts local African entrepreneurs so that they can showcase their work to the world. The profit generated from these sales are then reinvested back into the local communities for social development projects. In her free time Drsane enjoys finding creative ways to stay active, as well as spend quality time with friends and family

Meet Andrew Seong, UNA-Canada’s Regional Coordinator in Vancouver:
Andrew Seong is a 4th year student at the University of British Columbia, currently completing a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and a Master’s degree in Management through a dual-degree program. Before his role at UNAC as a Regional Coordinator for Vancouver, Andrew was a programme management intern at the United Nations Democracy Fund. Within the next five years, he aspires to be at the forefront of change as a leader within the development sector. In his free time, Andrew enjoys reading books on philosophy and economics.
