In 2015, 1 in 7 people around the world were hungry.
Everyday, all around the world, people are dying from famine and suffering from hunger and malnutrition.
But food insecurity is not only an issue in developing countries, it is a problem here in Canada as well!
In 2014, Statistics Canada found that more than three million Canadians were affected by food insecurity. Household food insecurity affected 1 in 6 Canadian children under the age of 18.
The number of hungry people in Canada mostly reside in the north of the country and other remote and marginalised communities, but they are also in urban centres – students, un- and underemployed youth, and single parent households. First Nations people, single mothers and new immigrants are often those most affected by food insecurity.
