Meyer Brownstone
Meyer Brownstone has been named the recipient of the 1986 Pearson Peace Medal. The medal was established eight years ago by the United Nations Association in Canada to honour, in Lester B. Pearson’s name, Canadians who have made an outstanding contribution to international understanding and cooperation. The selection of the Pearson Medallist is made each year by a jury of eminent Canadians.
Dr. Brownstone was, in 1987, Director of the University of Toronto’s Center for Urban and Community Studies. He participated in many charitable and educational organizations. Most notably, he was Chairperson of the Board of Directors of OXFAM-Canada, as well as a member of the Council of the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives and the CCIC Working Group on Latin America. Dr. Brownstone is the author of many publications and guest lectures at universities across Canada, and his academic work has taken him to Chile and Mexico.
