Challenges and the Way Forward: Victoria as a Sustainable City
United Nations Association in Canada (UNA-Canada) is proud to be advancing the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals, including SDG #11: Making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.
More than half the world’s population lives in cities. By 2030, it is projected that six out of ten people will live in cities. Despite numerous planning challenges, well-managed cities and communities can be incubators for innovation and ingenuity - key drivers of sustainable development.
Citizens and communities are working together to find solutions that contribute to a better future and better built cities – for all. UNA-Canada strives to create and maximize civic engagement on this topic, among others, in communities from coast to coast.
The Kenneth WM. Mariash Global Issues Dialogue brings key housing and finance leaders together at a pivotal time in British Columbia. Working together to address the challenges of urbanism and community dynamics are the path to solving our supply and scarcity problems. Supply and demand are, and have always been, the enduring economic solution. By supporting communities getting back to the basics of good economic policy we will identify practical and realistic solutions that address housing affordability.
It will be hosted by Kenneth Wm. Mariash Sr. and Kathryn White, President & CEO of UNA-Canada, with Peter Legge, O.B.C. serving as moderator. The programme will feature former BC Premier Mike Harcourt, Mayor of Victoria, Lisa Helps, and a panel discussion with community, industry and development leaders.
